In today’s world, everyone has a social media platform of some type. Some people focus on one platform while others have a presence on many platforms. There are some experts that say pick where you are comfortable and bring the people to you. Then there are other experts that say find the platform that your audience is using and go to them.
I personally make a profile on each of them for presence, and then link them so I have content on all of them. I will discuss that strategy in another article so be on the lookout!
But the question I will be addressing in this article is, “What should you put on your social media profile?” There are a few items that you should have displayed on each platform.
1. Logo / Headshot
Okay, this one may seem like a no-brainer, but I can count on my hands and your hands too how many people have come to me to set up their social media and they didn’t have a professional headshot or a logo for me to use. They will send me selfies and grainy jpegs, then be mad when I say I am not a miracle worker. Please come with a high-resolution logo or headshot which is sized for web content. If you are new, you can go to Fiverr or others to get this done for an affordable price. If you are tech-savvy and have a good phone and a good eye, you can save some money.
2. Banner
Some social media profiles have banner space. First, you need to make sure that the banner you have designed fits the space provided. Not all platforms will have the same banner size, so you have to make sure that you have banners for each platform. The banners should have your picture/logo, tagline and contact information. This is a way to convey more about your business so don’t miss the opportunity to do so. Change these out periodically so that your page doesn’t get stale. A good way to use the space is to change the banners according to your event schedule. Canva has templates to get you started designing your own on the computer and on your phone. You can get it professionally designed if design is not your gift.
3.Headline / Tagline
This is the key phrase or slogan you use for your business. This is the line that gets people’s attention, that gets them to stop scrolling and read more of your profile. So make this short and catchy, but descriptive of your business. Test out a few of these lines until you find the one that resonates with you and your audience.
4. Short Bio
Some platforms ask for a short bio. So have one that is 150 characters long for Instagram and Twitter, then have one that is about 200 words long for LinkedIn and Facebook. Remember to include the link in a call to action sentence at the end.
5. Contact Info
This would include email, company site, landing pages, booking links, social media handles and telephone numbers. Some profiles have a section for you to add all of these and some don’t. It is always good to have a list of them saved on your computer or in your phone so you can have them when you need them and change them out if necessary.
